Piano Hat Pattern

I just got finished putting my Piano Hat pattern on my blog! There is a link in the "My Patterns" section if you would like to try to knit it. You can also link to it HERE.

Here is a couple of pictures of my cousin wearing the finished Piano Hat.

When I was writing this pattern, I had my cousin, Nikita, in mind. He plays the piano extremely well, and I love knitting so much that I want to share it with everyone! I thought of this pattern while I was thinking about different designs to use in a fair isle technique.

This particular idea came to me when I was thinking of people to knit for. When I thought of Nikita, I immediately thought of the piano. A piano keyboard is a fairly easy pattern to knit in the round, so I decided to try writing a pattern.

Soon enough, I was knitting Nikita's Piano Hat! I think it was a success and I hope everyone enjoys it!

Chunky Faux Cable Hat-

I knit this on Saturday while waiting for dinner to be ready. I bought some super chunky yarn and really wanted to make a hat, so I did! It was really enjoyable because it went SO fast!

I have posted the pattern for this hat as a Google Document. There is a link to it on the left side of my blog in the "My Patterns" section.

But to make it even easier, you can also link to it

Unemployed

This week has been different for me. I have worked all day for a long time and not having any jobs has been weird so far. I am looking for a job, but not having something to fill my day with has made me really wish I had something else.
I guess there are good things and bad things about being unemployed. I will list them here:
A. I have all the time in the world to do anything I want
a. I have time to relax
b. I have time to do homework
c. I have time to clean
d. I have time to cook
B. I feel like I can't spend money because I'm not making any!

I like to go shopping sometimes in my spare time (especially online) and I don't want to spend money that I am not going to have.

I guess it was a good thing that I bought much more yarn than I could knit up before I was jobless :)

So now I'll start my stash knitting instead of stash building (I do have enough to last me until I find my next job...I think....I hope :D)

Lindsey J's Beret

I have recently started a new project! It's another Mini-Argyle Beret and I am so excited! I am knitting it with Knitpicks Merino Style yarn in Storm and Hawk. They are beautiful colors and I am glad that Lindsey, my friend from work, chose them. The Storm color is a dark blue and the Hawk is a darker gray. I can't wait for it to be finished! This time I have a deadline to make this because Lindsey will be leaving. Hopefully I can finish this beret in time--and I hope she will like it!

I have been knitting with
addi turbo (c) needles lately. I REALLY love them! I think they were worth EVERY penny that I paid for them (and that is a lot of pennies for a pair of knitting needles :D) I love these knitting needles SO much, in fact, that I just barely purchased 4 more pairs to add to my collection of addi turbos (c)!!

Riding TRAX

Last week, school started. I rode the TRAX, which is a light rail train that runs through Salt Lake City. I decided to bring my knitting so that I'd have something to do other than looking at the other people. On my way home, a man sat across from me and I guess he was watching me for a minute, because he said, "Excuse me, can I ask what you are doing?" I told him that I was knitting, but I didn't get to elaborate too much because all of a sudden, he started going off on how "women" always do that kind of stuff and "women" like sewing and doing crafty things and "women" are the ONLY ones who EVER knit and sew and crochet and so on...

I wish that I could have jumped in and said something about how women are NOT the only ones who do this! There are millions of other people around the world who knit (Men, women, old people, young people, people in Canada, people in China...Knitters are everywhere)! Maybe someday this man will learn to open his mind to new ideas (and old ideas too) so that he can be more accepting of everyone who knits and does any kind of craft!

AHHHH!!!

The *WORST* day EVER working at Summerhays was today! I took a sabbatical for about 3 months to work at the Mosquito Abatement District (which is an AMAZING job) and Summerhays wanted me to work for the month of September for them.. so I said okay. What I found out, is that they hired a RIDICULOUS person to work there too. I am SO glad that my sister is working with me because I'd probably explode if I had to work with this super annoying girl without Heidi there.

There are a few reasons this new girl wants to make me scream:
1- She's not a very likeable person
2- She's EXTREMELY pushy
3- She thinks she knows EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING
4- She treats me like I know nothing
5- She ALSO treats me like a little kid
6- She talks to my customers while I am explaining something to them
7- If I could, I'd hit her (but then I'd probably get fired)
8- There are many other reasons, but I'd rather not discuss them right now... :D

Working with people you don't like is the WORST! I am going to e-mail my boss tonight and tell him... I've never had to tell my boss that I can't work with someone before because it is really easy for me to get along with people. I just don't think that I will be able to stand six whole weeks putting up with this ridicuous girl at work. I hope that I will be able to get it all worked out because --AHHHHHHH!!!!-- sorry, I had to scream... This is going to be the worst six weeks of my life!!

Sorry about this post-- I just HAD to vent a little!!

--Lindsay

Oh and by the way, above is a picture of what I looked like when I got home from work... ripping my hair out... and screaming... and crossing my eyes... and being super stressed... not that fun :D

Cheetah Beret

I've recently been intrigued by Knitnerd's Mini Argyle Beret... and I am addicted to knitting them!! I have made 3 so far and I am planning to make even another (and possibly even another after that one... :D)

I have been thinking about patterns other than argyle that I can incorporate in this pattern for the beret. While I was looking through the patterns that I have collected from books and magazines, I found one for a cheetah spot pattern. I just barely got through fixing the chart so that I can finish the beret I am working on. (I just needed to find out how to make the decreases work with the cheetah pattern)

(I really want you all to enjoy :D)

I am excited to hear about and see the other masterpieces that everyone has made!! (Post them on
Ravelry so that everyone will enjoy them!)

Find the link to this pattern on the left of my blog in the "My Patterns" section or you can link to it

Introduction

Hello! My name is Lindsay and I knit. Most people find this out about me fairly quickly because I always have yarn with me... If I don't, my hands don't know what to do! My favorite things to knit are hats. They are quick and you don't have to make two of them.

Recently, I was afraid to try anything but hats, but I have now made myself a vest. I'm not sure it will count as a vest, because I used such big needles and chunky yarn.... it only took four days. I have decided to make another to prove myself worthy to call myself a knitter. I've been knitting for about four years now and I only have hats to show for it! Well, plus one vest. But I do have a pretty cool collection of hats.

I also have a few other hobbies other than knitting. I crochet as well. I don't do it as often as I used to though. My love for knitting has grown much more than my love of crocheting. I've crocheted a few blankets, I donated one to my pregnant aunt, one to cover the old moth-eaten seats in my dad's car, and one to my bed.

I absolutely LOVE dogs. I will always have one (or more) to keep me company. I really want a Great Dane some day. Another one of my hobbies is grooming dogs. I enjoy doing it.

My other favorite hobby is looking up knitting patterns that intrigue me. My favorite one so far is the "Mini-Argyle Beret" by Angela Sixian Wu. I've made two--they are so much fun to make!

I will be sure to keep you updated with all the news going on in my life and my thoughts about knitting. Hope you have fun!
